Insulation & Heating: Can You Use a Garden Room All Year Round?

Yes — but only if it’s built to the right standard. Not all “garden rooms” are equal here, and this is one of the most common regrets we hear about from customers who bought elsewhere first.

Why cheap garden rooms fail in winter (and summer)

A structure with thin single-skin walls and basic glazing might look similar to a fully insulated room in photos, but performs completely differently in practice — cold and damp in winter, uncomfortably hot in direct summer sun. The difference is almost entirely in what you can’t see: wall build-up, floor insulation, and glazing spec.

What “fully insulated” actually means

Every CoreBuild includes insulated walls, roof, and floor as standard, plus double glazing throughout. This is the baseline that makes a room genuinely usable in January, not just a “three-season” space that gets put away for winter.

Heating options

Most customers use an electric panel heater or smart heating system sized to the room — efficient, quick to warm the space, and simple to control remotely. Underfloor heating is available as a SignatureFit upgrade for those wanting a more premium, even heat.

Keeping it cool in summer

Insulation works both ways — it keeps heat out as well as in. Good ventilation (openable windows, trickle vents) and, where needed, a small cooling unit keep the room comfortable even during a heatwave.
